style="font-weight: 400;">Just a little side note: people with ADD tend to have something as well, called Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria, which makes rejection even more painful and less bearable.</span></p><p><img

style="font-weight: 400;">Rejection is hard for all of us. One way that I have found to overcome rejection is something that I read in a book by Jack Canfield, called The Success Principles. He has a chapter on sales, and he refers to the acronym SW-SW-SW-SW. That’s kind of a mouthful, but it stands for Some Will, Some Won’t, So What, Someone’s Waiting. </span></p><p><span
style="font-weight: 400;">Some will want what you have to offer. Some won’t want what you have to offer. So what! Someone’s waiting. There’s always someone who is waiting to receive what you have to offer. They will be grateful. They will be thankful. They will celebrate. They will praise you. They will love you. And they will be so, so grateful that you didn’t stop just because you had a little bit of rejection.</span></p><p><span
style="font-weight: 400;"><img

Just keep your eye on that someone who’s waiting. They’re waiting for you. They want what you have. They’re looking for what you have to offer. Keep going! If not for yourself, keep going for them, because someone is waiting for you.</span></p></div></div></div></div></div> </section> <section

style="font-weight: 400;">Well, one way that I&#8217;ve discovered that makes things easier, when they seem hard, is to have a cheerleader. When I was a teenager I wanted to be a cheerleader. Probably like pretty much every other girl around, I thought it would be the funnest thing ever. But, you know, things didn&#8217;t line up for me. I was homeschooled, for one, so, no one to cheer for. No football team or anything, so that didn&#8217;t work out. </span></p><p><img

style="font-weight: 400;">Do you know why they have cheerleaders at football games? Football is a really hard activity, and the team really feeds off the energy of the crowd. The cheerleaders pump up their energy and they cheer for the team and they boost everybody up in the crowd. Then everybody gets excited and motivated and they have more energy. Pretty soon the football players are running faster and catching better, because they have cheerleaders cheering them on.</span></p><h1><span
style="color: #003366;">Write Yourself a Letter</span></h1><p><span
style="font-weight: 400;">Well, why can&#8217;t we take that idea from high school and carry it on through our lives? We do hard things all the time and we know that having someone cheer for us, having someone in our corner, is going to help. So, one way that I&#8217;ve used this idea is by being my own cheerleader. I will write a letter to myself saying “Yay! You got this! You can do it! You&#8217;re awesome!” I just write a letter of encouragement to myself and then when I&#8217;m going through something hard, I can read it. I put it up in my bathroom on the wall and I read it frequently. It gives me a boost. It gives me the encouragement that I need to get done what needs to get done&#8211;these hard things that come up in our lives. </span></p><p><img

style="font-weight: 400;">That’s perfectionism. And it&#8217;s exhausting! I am overcoming perfectionism myself, and I have learned a few things. I used to think that there was the way I learned how to do things, and the way I did them, and then there was the wrong way. There were only two options: my way and the wrong way. That&#8217;s a really frustrating, annoying, and stiff way to live. It&#8217;s not fun, and it&#8217;s really hard. It’s really hard to think that you&#8217;re the only one who knows the right way to do everything because then you think you have to do everything, and then you give everything you have to it,  and you quickly get worn out. </span></p><h1><span
style="font-weight: 400; color: #003366;">A Different View</span></h1><p><span
style="font-weight: 400;">I was visiting with a friend recently who said that there are a million ways to do something right. A million ways to do something right? That&#8217;s a very different view than perfectionism, and it actually sounds kind of fun. And it sounds exciting. And it sounds like variety. And it sounds like other people could do things too, and I don&#8217;t have to do everything, because if my way is not the only way, or the right way to do it, then I can delegate and I can let others make choices and decisions without me having to criticize or worry that they were doing it wrong. </span></p><p><img

style="font-weight: 400; color: #003366;">The World is Not Black and White</span></h1><p><span
style="font-weight: 400;">I have a story to share. I was talking to a therapist, which I have done a lot of in my life (oh, yeah!), and she said “Maria, you&#8217;re thinking in black and white.” And I said “Yes I am. I love black and I love white.” And she says “But that&#8217;s not all there is. It&#8217;s not all or nothing. The world is not black and white.” And I told her “But I like my world of black and white. I like having this ideal of perfection, and this perfect house, and these perfect children that are doing exactly as I say because I have worked hard to figure out the right way to do things.” I just liked my black and white world. She said “Maria, if you stay in this black and white thinking you will always have depression and you will always have anxiety.” </span></p><p><span
style="font-weight: 400;">That was a tough realization for me and a tough decision for me to consider. I had to choose between my black and white thinking and my perfectionism. If I kept those, I was going to keep my depression and my anxiety, because I was always going to be worried that things weren&#8217;t going right or exactly as planned, because this world isn&#8217;t made that way. I thought I could have this perfect little world and it was really exciting to me that I loved black and white, and I said, after thinking for a minute, I said, “Well, between black and white is gray, and I hate gray. I hate gray! It&#8217;s the worst color there is. It&#8217;s gloomy and dark and confusing, and there are so many shades, and you just don&#8217;t know what choices to make.” I didn&#8217;t like gray and I didn&#8217;t want gray. Well, she looks at me, so patiently, and she looks down at my shirt. You guys! I was wearing a gray shirt. Seriously, no joking. I was wearing this gray shirt!</span></p><p><img

style="font-weight: 400;">I went home after that session and found that my closet was full of gray shirts. Gray, to me, symbolized depression and I was feeling depressed so I wore gray. Even though I truly hated it. She said something to me that has changed my life. She said “What if, in between black and white, this perfection that I was going for, what if in between that was color!” Oh, I like color. I love red, and yellow, and vibrant blue, and bright green. I love colors. I love colors! I could do that! If between black and white wasn&#8217;t gray, but was actually color, I could embrace that. I could embrace differences, I could embrace options. And I could embrace variety. I didn&#8217;t understand before that with the idea of perfection, and the idea of black and white, there wasn&#8217;t just only the option of black and white and gray. There was the option of color, and variety and choices. </span></p><p><span
style="font-weight: 400;">I encourage you to consider when you start to criticize yourself or someone else for making a decision or doing something the wrong way, ask yourself “Is it really wrong, or is it just different? Is it one of those million ways to do it right?” This has changed my life, and I think it could change yours. That&#8217;s why I&#8217;m sharing this message on perfection. Look for the colors in your life. There are a lot of them, and they are so fun.  </span></p></div></div></div></div></div> </section> <section

style="font-weight: 400;">Once there was a person&#8230;okay it was me. I was super discouraged and feeling down and overwhelmed with life and kind of annoyed, and stuck. It felt like life just wasn&#8217;t working out for me, and things weren&#8217;t happening </span><span
style="font-weight: 400;">on my time frame. I was frustrated and just kept thinking, “Ahh, why can I not just get ahead?” And then one day I listened to a radio show or something, and they were interviewing this lady who was talking about luck. She had this theory that luck just doesn’t happen, and that there are steps you can take to become more lucky. I thought, “Oh, that&#8217;s what I need. I need more luck. I just need to be more lucky and then my life is going to be better.” I knew it would then be awesome. </span></p><p><img

style="font-weight: 400; color: #003366;">Gratitude Brings More Luck</span></h1><p><span
style="font-weight: 400;">So, I listened to her steps and the one that stuck out to me the most was when she said that when you are grateful and you show gratitude it brings more luck into your life. She did a whole scientific study on it and lots of research,and she found that people who are grateful are just more lucky. And she shared an easy way to show gratitude and to bring more luck into your life. When I heard it, I thought, “Well I can do that. I can be grateful.” </span></p><h1><span
style="font-weight: 400; color: #003366;">Write Thank You Notes</span></h1><p><span
style="font-weight: 400;">So the tip that she gave was to write thank you notes to others. She shared that after every day before she goes to bed, or leaves work or whenever, she writes thank you notes to everyone that she worked with that day. I thought that was the greatest idea ever and the radio talk show person was surprised and said, “What? Like you actually write a handwritten note?” And she said that sometimes she’ll do that because it’s fun, but sometimes it&#8217;s an email, or sometimes it&#8217;s just a text, or maybe sometimes it is a handwritten note. But, in whatever form it may be in, she just expresses gratitude for those that she worked with that day and then that brought more luck to her. So, I thought I could try that.</span></p><p><img

style="font-weight: 400;">I tried it and hello, that&#8217;s it, that&#8217;s the magic trick. It helped me so much to feel better, and happier, and more optimistic. As I did it, it just felt like things were going more smoothly for me. I felt like I was getting the support that I wanted and needed because I was showing gratitude for the good things in my life and I was looking at the end of the day at the things I had to be grateful for, and the people I had to be thankful for. </span></p><p><span
style="font-weight: 400;">So that&#8217;s my tip for you. Write a thank you note. Even if it&#8217;s just a text, it&#8217;s magic. It really is magic. Try it out. It has been amazing for me and I’m certain it can be amazing for you, too.</span></p></div></div></div></div></div> </section> <section

style="font-weight: 400;">Being able to con someone into doing something is a pretty cool trick. What if we could take that, take the evil part out of it, and use it for good? What if we could con ourselves? That would be a great skill to have, I think that could be really useful. There are some things that I just need to be tricked into doing, especially when my motivation is down or my confidence is low. In times like that I have needed to be tricked or conned into turning things around.</span></p><p><span
style="font-weight: 400;">Through these experiences, I have found ways that I can con myself, and others, into more confidence, and I&#8217;m excited to teach you how I do this. If we look at the first three letters of the word CONFIDENCE, we have CON. My tips for you today fit within these letters, forming an acronym. I like acronyms because they are fun and easy to remember. I need as many tricks as I can get to remind myself of things, so acronyms work well for me.</span></p><p><img

style="font-weight: 400;">So, <strong>CON stands for Care, Obey and Nice.</strong> When you show someone you care, give them a task that they can obey, and a way to be nice to someone else, it&#8217;s going to boost their confidence. You can con others, or yourself, into more confidence, so let&#8217;s use this particular con in a happy, nice, friendly way. </span><b>Let&#8217;s CON ourselves and others into confidence!</b><span
style="font-weight: 400;"> </span></p><h1><span
style="font-weight: 400;">Caring</span></h1><p><span
style="font-weight: 400;">You start this con by caring. You show you care as you say positive words. Words of affirmation. Words of encouragement and love. “I knew you could do it! You&#8217;ve got this! You&#8217;re so amazing! You&#8217;ve done it before, and I know you can do it again.” </span><b>Words of affirmation show that you care for yourself or those that you work with.</b><span
style="font-weight: 400;"> </span></p><h1><span
style="font-weight: 400;">Obey</span></h1><p><span
style="font-weight: 400;">Isn’t it so hard to obey sometimes? It is so hard to obey even our own internal rules or desires. Sometimes it’s hard to get ourselves to do something that we&#8217;re obligated to do, or something that we even want to do. It can be hard, but when we simplify things and identify a task that&#8217;s completely within our capability to complete, then we find it easier to obey. Find something that&#8217;s easy to obey and do it! </span><b>You&#8217;re gonna feel much better as you accomplish even a small task.</b></p><h1><span
style="font-weight: 400;">Nice </span></h1><p><b>When you do something nice for someone else your confidence goes up.</b><span
style="font-weight: 400;"> You receive an automatic increase of confidence when you do something nice for someone else. </span></p><p><span
style="font-weight: 400;">So, con yourself or others through caring, obedience, and being nice. </span></p><p><img

style="font-weight: 400;">See It In Practice</span></h1><p><span
style="font-weight: 400;">I have a story, to help demonstrate how this works. When my kids were young, in elementary school, I used to go and volunteer in their classes doing math flashcards with the first and second graders. It was so fun. It was so fun! And I felt like what I was doing was making a difference. The kids would come in one at a time and they&#8217;d sit down and I would look them in the eye, say hello to them with a smile, and get out the flash cards. I&#8217;d show them that I had confidence that they could do it, and that they could learn it. If they couldn&#8217;t do it yet I expressed to them that I knew that they could learn it.</span></p><p><span
style="font-weight: 400;">After showing them I cared through words, I then gave them the small task of obeying something that they could do. I would ask them to give the answers to the flashcards. If they couldn&#8217;t do it the first time, I would help them to do it the second time, or the third. And if they needed help, that was okay because they could do it even with some help sometimes.</span></p><p><span
style="font-weight: 400;">And then, as they finished the task, I would have them go find their friend that would come and do flashcards with me next. I gave them a task, like a simple job, to do something nice for someone else. They would go get someone for me. </span><b>I would ask them to serve, because service is a guaranteed confidence booster</b><span
style="font-weight: 400;">! </span></p><h1><span
style="font-weight: 400;">The World Needs More Confidence</span></h1><p><span
style="font-weight: 400;">It can be fun, not hard, to con yourself or someone else into more confidence. This world needs more confidence. We need to have more confidence in ourselves, in others and in the goodness that is in this world.</span></p></div></div></div></div></div> </section> <section

style="font-weight: 400;">The S.A.V.E.R.S.</span></h1><p><span
style="font-weight: 400;">Being unsure of which one he should incorporate into his life, he had the bright idea “Hey, if these six different things work for different people, what if I do all of these things? What could that do for me?” So, he implemented those into a morning routine called SAVERS. SAVERS is an acronym. S for silence, A for affirmations, V for visualization, E for exercise, R for read and S for scribe. That makes a nice acronym there, SAVERS. It’s easy to remember and it’s easy to do.</span></p><h1><span
style="font-weight: 400;">Silence</span></h1><p><span
style="font-weight: 400;">The first is Silence. It seems like in today’s world we don’t get a lot of silence, right? We get in the car and we turn the radio on, or we’re doing stuff around the house and we’ve got music playing, and we always have people around us. It’s hard to just take some time to ourselves, to sit and just focus on our thoughts. But it has so much value. Silence may just be some quiet meditation time, where you close your eyes and focus on your breathing, as you inhale and then exhale. Or maybe this is prayer time, where you are praying and listening quietly.</span></p><h1><span
style="font-weight: 400;">Affirmations</span></h1><p><span
style="font-weight: 400;">The next part is Affirmations. Affirmations are just positive statements that we repeat to ourselves to help increase our energy level. They’re positive and they’re helpful to us and they give us guidance and direction. They could be as simple as what we might call “I am” statements. “I am happy. I am free. I am helpful.” Things like that. Things that we want to improve in our lives that serve to remind us, “Hey, this is where I’m going.”</span></p><p><span
style="font-weight: 400;">Another way you could do it is you could write out, or say something like “As I do </span><i><span
style="font-weight: 400;">blank</span></i><span
style="font-weight: 400;">, I become </span><i><span
style="font-weight: 400;">blank</span></i><span
style="font-weight: 400;">”. For example, “As I read my scriptures, I learn more about the Gospel or I learn more about Jesus Christ.” Or “As I am kind to others, they are more kind to me.” So, that might be something you could do for an affirmation.</span></p><h1><span
style="font-weight: 400;">Visualization</span></h1><p><span
style="font-weight: 400;">Visualization is the third part. It’s just like it sounds. You visualize things. This is about you telling your mind what you want, and where you want it to focus. If you know where you’re going then you’ll have a much easier time getting yourself there. This might be done by standing in front of your vision board. Maybe you’ve got some picture of things that represent things that you want to achieve in your life, or things you want to bring into your life, or successes that you want to have. You can stand there and study those and try to get those into your mind. Try to see them in your mind.</span></p><p><span
style="font-weight: 400;">You could also just sit silently with your eyes closed and picture what you want your life to be like. See if you can get yourself to feel what it’s going to be like when you are there and that will really help you to internalize that, and to accept that as the reality that you want to achieve.</span></p><p><img

style="font-weight: 400;">Exercise</span></h1><p><span
style="font-weight: 400;">The fourth part is Exercise. This can take on different forms. Maybe you go out for a run. Maybe you go out for a bike ride. Maybe you rearrange the cans in your food storage room, those big heavy cans, moving them, lifting them around. Or big buckets of cement. You can be creative. Maybe go outside and do some pull ups on the swing set, or just jump up and down. A lot of times we get up, go into the office and sit in a chair all day, and we don’t move a lot. We’re just sitting there&#8211;all day. If we can get ourselves moving, that’s going to help our bodies to function a lot better. And our minds as well.</span></p><h1><span
style="font-weight: 400;">Reading</span></h1><p><span
style="font-weight: 400;">The fifth part is Read. Pick up a book. Learn something. This could be your scriptures. Or a novel, where you could really get into the story and. Or, it could be something that you want to learn, through some educational book. The idea is that we want to always be exercising that part of our brain. We’re reading words, and we’re learning new things.</span></p><p><img

style="font-weight: 400;">Scribe</span></h1><p><span
style="font-weight: 400;">The final piece of SAVERS is Scribe. This is writing. He calls it Scribe because that makes the acronym flow. What would it be if he used the word Writing instead? SAVERW??? Scribe sounds better. It makes the acronym work better&#8211;so we have SAVERS. Scribe then. We all have negative feelings and emotions inside of us, and if we let them sit there, eventually they’re going to bottle up and they’re going to come out and be spewed out all over other people. We don’t want that. We want to be proactive and get ahead of that.</span></p><p><span
style="font-weight: 400;">So what we do is, maybe every other day, during your scribe time, your writing time, is you sit down and write all the things that are troubling you or bothering you. Write about your frustrations. Write about the sadness you’ve experienced in your life. Write about any disappointment and anger you&#8217;ve felt. Write that on paper, and then tear it up and throw it in the garbage.</span></p><p><span
style="font-weight: 400;">If you do that every other day then maybe on the even days what you do is you write about gratitude, or things that you are grateful for. Maybe you have a gratitude journal where you write and record these things. You can write in there “I&#8217;m grateful for this, I’m grateful for that. I’m grateful for my family,” and on and on. This will help you to appreciate those things more.</span></p><p><img

style="font-weight: 400;">The Quick Version</span></h1><p><span
style="font-weight: 400;">Those are the six pieces of the SAVERS morning routine. What’s really great about this is that you can do a super simple, abbreviated version. What I like to do is to set a timer for one minute and spend just a single minute on each part. This then becomes the six minute version.</span></p><p><span
style="font-weight: 400;">I’ll set a timer for one minute on my phone and I&#8217;ll sit there and I&#8217;ll just be silent for one minute. When the alarm goes off I reset it and I switch over to my affirmations. I have a list of affirmations on my phone that I like to read and I’ll read through those until the timer goes off again. Then I&#8217;ll switch over to some visualization. When the timer goes off again I switch over to exercise. Maybe I’ll do some push ups or planks, or some stretching, or whatever, for one minute. Then next is reading. So I will pull out a book and I&#8217;ll read for one minute. And then the last thing is scribe. I’ll write down quickly, “These things are bothering me.” Or “I&#8217;m grateful for this.” And after six minutes, BOOM!, I’m done.</span></p><h1><span
style="font-weight: 400;">Now it’s Your Turn!</span></h1><p><span
style="font-weight: 400;">It’s amazing! Even just doing it for six minutes makes you feel so empowered, and so ready to go. It gives you that boost you need in the morning. Of course if you do it for longer and spend more time on these different things, you’ll get more benefit from it. But before investing more time into it, just try it out at an easy level. You’ll see that even just doing the quick version is going to make a big impact on your life.</span></p></div></div></div></div></div> </section> <section

Well, I’m going to share some ideas to help you get unstuck, and hopefully we’ll be able to help you get up and get moving again, past whatever challenge or hurdle you’re currently facing, to move you forward in the direction you want to be going.</span></p></div></div></div></div></div> </section> <section

style="font-weight: 400; color: #003366;">When I Found Myself Stuck</span></h1><p><span
style="font-weight: 400;">Let me relate this to a story of a time when I got stuck. My story is about being physically stuck, but I think you will see that it applies to being stuck in life, in your thoughts. and in your brain. So, years ago when I was younger, I was travelling in a car on this dirt road with a friend. We were out kind of exploring this area we were unfamiliar with and it had just recently rained. Here we were cruising along, and as we passed by some interesting things we stopped to take some pictures. Like for example, we saw this old abandoned house, well, a shack I guess, and it was made of cinderblocks and there was some old metal corrugated roofing lying nearby.</span></p><p><span
style="font-weight: 400;">Well, we continued on a little bit past this point and decided that the road wasn’t going anywhere, so we decided to turn around and head back. As we were coming back, we started heading up this hill that was probably 100 feet long, and we didn&#8217;t get but 20 feet up and our tires started spinning. They were filled with dirt and mud! It was wet, like I mentioned, and the car just slid back down the hill. It was very clear, very quickly, that we weren&#8217;t going to be getting up the hill this way. </span><b>We tried again and again and we couldn’t get past this certain point. We were stuck!</b></p><p><span
style="font-weight: 400;">So, there we were at the bottom of this hill and we were stuck. Does this sound familiar? This might be how you’re feeling in life, when you are, what you might call, stuck. You are trying to move forward and you want to move forward but for whatever reason the wheels just spin and you’re not able to get any momentum or any traction to move forward in your life. And this was the same situation that we were in.</span></p><h1><span
style="font-weight: 400; color: #003366;">How to Get Yourself Unstuck</span></h1><p><span
style="font-weight: 400;">I&#8217;ll come back to the story in a little bit, but first </span><b>I want to share with you four suggestions that I have to help</b><span
style="font-weight: 400;">. Maybe these are things that you can try that will help you to get unstuck and to get yourself moving forward.</span></p><p><img

style="font-weight: 400;">My first suggestion to you is to </span><b>find some support.</b><span
style="font-weight: 400;"> There’s probably people around you that are not stuck and who would be willing to offer you some help, to give you some advice, or to give you some direction. Maybe they would even hold your hand and help you get started and be supportive as you get going. </span><span
style="font-weight: 400;">Support may also come in the form of someone else who is stuck like you are, who also wants to get unstuck. This is someone you can bounce some ideas off of and that, together, you can work on finding some solutions and getting both of yourselves to move forward. </span></p><p><span
style="font-weight: 400;">My next suggestion for you is to </span><b>change something</b><span
style="font-weight: 400;">. Find something new or different that you can do. </span><b>If you’re continuing to do the same things that you’ve been doing in the past, then you’re going to get the same results you’ve been getting in the past.</b><span
style="font-weight: 400;"> In order for things to change in your life, you’re going to have to make some changes. So you need to find something that you can do differently and then you can start to expect that you’ll have different results. </span></p><p><span
style="font-weight: 400;">My third suggestion to you is to </span><b>find a way to gain some momentum</b><span
style="font-weight: 400;">, to get some small victories that will help to give you that momentum. </span><b>I suggest that you have a morning routine.</b><span
style="font-weight: 400;"> Something that you consistently do as you wake up each morning. Identify a few things that you can do that are pretty simple, that you can just knock out pretty easily, that will help you to get some small victories. It could be as simple as just making your bed. </span><b>Start the day off with a victory and as you do that you’ll teach yourself “Hey, I’m the kind of person that wins. I’m the kind of person that gets things done.”</b><span
style="font-weight: 400;"> That will lead to other, bigger things that you can get done. It will get you the momentum that you’re looking for that will help you to move along.</span></p><p><span
style="font-weight: 400;">My fourth and final suggestion for you is to </span><b>pray for guidance and inspiration and then go about your day and keep your eyes open</b><span
style="font-weight: 400;">. Be aware of things going on around you and expect to find that something is going to come your way. There’s going to be an opportunity or an idea that comes to you, or something like that. Or perhaps there will be someone that will cross your path, that will help to guide you and give you some better direction in your life, that will help you to get yourself unstuck, and that will lead you to getting whatever idea that you need to get yourself moving forward.  </span></p><h1><span
style="font-weight: 400; color: #003366;">A Quick Review</span></h1><p><span
style="font-weight: 400;">So those are my four suggestions for you. Let me do a quick recap of what those are. The first one is support. Find some support, someone who can help you, someone who can encourage you. The second thing is to change something. Do something different than what you’ve been doing. The third thing is to get some momentum. Start with some small victories. Implement a morning routine. And the final suggestion is to pray for guidance and inspiration. </span></p><h1><span
style="font-weight: 400; color: #003366;">The Happy Ending &#8212; Stuck No Longer! </span></h1><p><span
style="font-weight: 400;">Okay, so now back to my story, and hopefully you’ll see how some of these things, these suggestions that I mentioned, played out in my story and in us getting back to the top of the hill. So we sat there and we realized we were stuck. We knew that just sitting there wasn&#8217;t going to help get us out of the situation. So, we remembered the old building up at the top of the hill, and the roofing material. We went up there and we grabbed some of that old metal roofing. We thought if we could lay that on the track then maybe that would help us give the wheels something to grab onto and move up. Unfortunately, it didn’t work like we had hoped. </span></p><p><img

style="font-weight: 400;">The next thought was something similar. We thought “Oh, maybe we can gather some rocks and stick them there in the dirt and that would help us get moving.” So we packed down some rocks on the trail and again the car got a little bit of traction on those rocks, but it wasn’t enough to get going up the hill. </span></p><p><span
style="font-weight: 400;">So, finally, as the sun’s getting lower in the sky, we were getting more concerned about getting back before it got dark on us. We decided to pray again, and as we got up off our knees from saying the prayer, I remembered something from my high school days, in a physics class. It was something about friction being different depending on whether you’re pushing or pulling.</span></p><p><span
style="font-weight: 400;">I had the thought “What if we turn the car around and drive it up backwards?” So my friend jumped in the car, spun the thing around and gave it gas. He started going up the hill and he was actually making progress, inching his way up the hill. So there I was running alongside him cheering for him saying, “Go, go, go, go!,” Trying to encourage him and the car to give it their all and to get up the hill. Well&#8230;we got up the hill! We survived, which is why I am here today. We survived! We celebrated at the top of the hill and we were excited to have overcome this challenge and to get unstuck, to be able to keep moving forward with our day and with our plans.</span></p><p><span
style="font-weight: 400;">I want you to look at these suggestions that I&#8217;ve given you here. I want you to consider if you might find value in implementing one of them, or more of them in your life. Give it a try. See if it’s what you need to help yourself to get unstuck and get moving forward in your life again. You can do it! </span></p></div></div></div></div></div> </section> <section

style="font-weight: 400;">Isn&#8217;t that a sad story? It brings back a lot of emotions for me. It was hard. How about I try it again? Do you ever wish you could reverse time, and go back to do things over differently? Let’s try it with this story.</span></p><p><span
style="font-weight: 400;">It was a beautiful Christmas morning. The kids were super excited for the holiday. We were doing a video chat with my in-laws, and were opening the presents that they had sent for the kids. My daughter handed me the cutest little cabbage patch doll. It was so adorable! It was in the cutest little box, and it had these little ties on it to keep the doll from falling out. I tried to get them off with the scissors, but when that didn’t work, I used a knife. The knife slipped and I ended up cutting my hand. I went to the hospital and got stitches. It was kind of a pain. But fortunately, the emergency room was super fast and we were in and out within a couple of hours. I got home and I returned to celebrating Christmas day with my family.</span></p><p><img

style="font-weight: 400;">Both of those stories are true, and they are the same story. When I had the knife in my hand, I literally stabbed myself. While it was still stuck in my hand, I turned and showed it to my husband and he said, “Well, pull it out.” So, I pulled it out and put some pressure on it, and I thought, “I wish I could rewind. I wish I could have done that differently.” But I couldn&#8217;t, I couldn’t go back. I couldn&#8217;t have the knife not have gone into my hand. It just happened. It was an accident, and accidents happen. Life happens all the time. Things happen that make us think, “Oh, I wish I had not done that. Can we rewind?” Well, we can’t. We can’t rewind. We just can’t. Things happen and we cannot undo what has been done.  </span></p><p><span
style="font-weight: 400;">But what we can do is we can decide what story we’re going to tell. Are we going to hold on to the tragic tale, and focus on the tragedy and the hardship? We can choose to do that, and sometimes we do. We stick with only the hard parts. Alternatively, we can choose to focus on the highlights, the blessings, and all the good aspects of the situation. We can focus on the triumph. </span><b>You can’t have triumph without tragedy. You can&#8217;t conquer a mountain without having to climb it, without getting blisters and fatigue. You can’t feel the joy without feeling the pain. That’s just life</b><span
style="font-weight: 400;">. </span></p><p><img

style="font-weight: 400;">We can’t experience joy without pain, but we can choose where we focus our thoughts, and how we tell our story. Is it a tragedy? Or is it a triumph? It’s both, but where do we focus? Doesn’t that make all the difference. I challenge you today to think of something that you’ve overcome and share it. Tell someone, “Hey, there’s this hard thing that I overcame.” And celebrate your triumph. You can do that, and then ask them if there is anything that was hard for them that they have overcome? We can look for the triumphs. As we seek out the triumphs in our life, we will feel the satisfaction of victory and live with greater positivity. style="font-weight: 400;">What if I told you that your greatest trials are your greatest blessings. Would you believe me? Would you be like “Uh, no, you don’t know my trials. Maria, you do not know my trials, so you can’t say that.”? What if that’s true though? What if it is true? Have you ever considered that? Have you ever heard the phrase “your gift is your curse?” Have you ever heard that phrase? I have a tip for you. The tip is exactly that&#8211;</span><b>your gift is your curse. If you can learn to adopt this perspective, you can use it for good in your life</b><span
style="font-weight: 400;">. That’s my tip. </span></p><p><span
style="font-weight: 400;">Your gift is your curse and you can learn to harness it so it can bring you more joy and less heartache. I’ll share an example. I have the worst memory ever. Well, probably not ever, but I have a really bad memory, and I’m super, super distracted. I get distracted so easily. My phrase that I tell my kids is&#8211;and you’re probably going to just roll your eyes&#8211;the phrase is “Just because I don’t remember, doesn’t mean I don’t care.” And I mean it! Just because I forgot about you does not mean I don’t care about you. Just because I forgot that I said I was going to do something and didn’t do it, doesn’t mean I don’t care. I promise. Isn’t that the saddest thing you’ve ever heard? </span></p><p><img

style="font-weight: 400;">My poor kids, I used to feel so bad for them. I really do care. I do care, but I forget. I forget all the time. Truly, I forget all the time. It’s bad. It’s like a curse. I feel cursed, like “Oh my gosh, what is wrong with you? Get it together Maria.” I have alarms in my phone for everything and  then when they turn on, I turn them off, and then I forget to do the thing that the alarm was set for. I just turned it off because I have so many and I think, “I’m busy, so I’m going to turn that off.” But then I don’t get back to it. Anyway, I’m not going to ramble on about it, because that’s another one of my curses. Hello! </span></p><p><span
style="font-weight: 400;">But you know what? I’ve learned to harness this curse and realize and reveal the gift inside of it, and that is the tip I have for you. That is the key. That is the way to have more joy and less heartache. I need to realize that this memory and this distractibility that I have been given is a gift. And when I change my thinking, and when I look at it as the gift that it is, I find so many hidden treasures.</span></p><p><img

style="font-weight: 400;">Here’s an example. When I am happy, I am all in. I’m so happy, nothing can bring me down. I’m super happy. In such moments, it’s as if there never existed anything ever bad, ever in my life. I can’t remember any of it. I don’t remember any of the bad stuff. I only remember the good stuff, so when I’m having a good time, I’m totally all in. Literally, I can be all, all, all in when I’m happy. I can because I totally forget all of the bad stuff. It’s amazing! You guys, it feels really good! It feels so good because I don’t remember any of the bad stuff. My husband is so amazed. This is a gift for me. And I feel like it’s so awesome. It’s so awesome. </span></p><p><span
style="font-weight: 400;">When I’m with people, I’m all there. I’m all with them. I completely forget everything else and everyone else and I’m there. I’m with that person and I’m in that moment, and I can be right there. Because I totally forgot about everything else. It’s awesome, you guys it feels so good. It’s my gift. It’s a huge, huge, blessing and it’s so powerful and it’s amazing. It’s a gift. But, when the eggs are boiling and you’re having a good conversation somewhere else in the house, it’s a curse too. But it balances out, and the more that I look at it as a gift, the more amazing I realize it is. It’s pretty cool. It feels really good. You have one too. What’s your curse? It’s so much easier to see it as a curse. Curses are way more obvious.</span></p><p><img

style="font-weight: 400;">My advice for you, my tip for you, my recommendation for you, is to figure out what’s your curse. You already know it. It’s super obvious because it’s part of a cycle of things that go wrong in your life all the time. Do you always forget stuff like me? Or do you get distracted like me? Or is it something else? It’s probably something else for you. How is it a gift? Ask yourself these questions. What is my curse? How is it a gift? How can I harness this gift for good? How can I learn to appreciate the gift that it is? How can I find the hidden treasures that have always been available to me in my life, and how can I change it?    </span></p><p><span
style="font-weight: 400;">I used to want my forgetfulness to go away. It’s awful. Forgetting all the time is awful, and getting distracted is awful. It just is. I have felt bad, and guilty and ashamed of it often. But I have realized that it’s also a gift, and it allows me to be completely in the moment, all in and all happy. When I&#8217;m happy, I&#8217;m all happy. When I have joy, I have all joy. I cannot remember anything bad. I just can’t and I can’t hold a grudge because I can’t remember why I got mad at someone. style="font-weight: 400;">I have a little story to help provide an example of this. One day I was going to the chiropractor and he made this comment that kind of struck me. I was having struggles with my back and he was helping me out, and he just made this comment that totally seemed kind of random. </span><b>He said “Well, none of us are born perfect.” And that really struck me.</b><span
style="font-weight: 400;"> I thought, “My kids were born perfect.” That’s really how I felt. They were perfect. They were everything I could imagine. They were everything I wanted. They were everything I dreamed of when I was expecting them. When they were born and placed into my arms, I just held them and thought, “They’re perfect.”  </span></p><p><span
style="font-weight: 400;">Well, after some reflection I have realized that I think we were both correct in what we were thinking that day in his office. I think my chiropractor was talking about our physical imperfections&#8211;our mortal imperfections. There’s a lot wrong with us. And my perspective in that moment, just the thought that came to me, was about my kids and how perfect I thought they were when they were born. I think I was right too. </span><b>I think they were exactly what they needed to be, and exactly where they needed to be. And that included their problems and challenges and perfect imperfections.</b><span
style="font-weight: 400;"> </span></p><p><span
style="font-weight: 400;">My kids have struggles, going all the way back to the first moments of their life. Labor and delivery wasn’t smooth for any of them. And none of them actually came in the ideal circumstances, or perfectly healthy. Maybe close, in some cases. I remember one of my sons was born almost two weeks late and his face was all bruised. He was literally purple. But, when I held him in my arms, and looked at him&#8230;he was perfect. He was so perfect! I couldn’t have imagined a more beautiful person at that moment. When I held him and looked at him, I knew he was perfect.</span></p><p><span
style="font-weight: 400;">So, what do we take away from that? What do we learn from that experience that I had about analyzing perfection and what it means? </span><b>None of us will be our true ultimate selves in this life. That’s not what mortality is.</b><span
style="font-weight: 400;"> It’s not about this ideal and this perfection and being exactly what we want and maintaining perfection or looking perfect. It doesn’t last. Sometimes we can get really close and we can get sneak peeks of our true self, and we can behave in a way that makes us proud. We can do things that make us feel accomplished. But then we stumble and fall sometimes, and we have flaws and failures. </span></p><p><span
style="font-weight: 400;">All of this is what forms our perfect life. The kind of perfection that comes from learning through struggles and failures and challenges. Next time you’re thinking about how you’re not measuring up, or you’re not good enough, I want you to think about how your mother sees you (or your father). Even in their imperfection, I&#8217;m sure they love you. And your Heavenly Parents, too. They love you in your imperfection, and they know that you are on this imperfect path trying your best. </span><b>And in their eyes, you measure up. And in their eyes, you’re perfect just the way you are.</b></p><p><span
style="font-weight: 400;">I want you to know that I believe in you and I believe all of your imperfections are part of our Heavenly Father’s perfect plan for your life. And I hope that this message gets to you, and sinks in, so that you can feel it in your heart. The witness that I have of perfection and imperfection, or  perfect imperfection! Because it’s a part of our lives and it’s okay. And you’re good enough.</span></p></div></div></div></div></div> </section> <section
