How Do You Stop Feeling Overwhelmed?

How Do You Stop Feeling Overwhelmed?

I learned a super valuable lesson this week and I want to share it with you. Have you ever felt super, super overwhelmed? Are you currently feeling overwhelmed? I know a lot of people are feeling a little overwhelmed right now. There are so many decisions to make, and so many things to do, and so much new going on right now in the world. I think it’s safe to say that a lot of people are feeling a bit overwhelmed.

Well, let me share this lesson that I’ve learned. I learned it from my kids. Kids are very intuitive and they just seem to know what to do when they have problems. I don’t know about all kids, but I’m pretty sure this is true for most. When my kids are feeling overwhelmed or burdened, they come to me. They come to me and they release all of their burdens onto mom (or onto dad). They know that is a way for them to cope. One way to cope with your problems is to cast your burdens onto your parents so they can help you sort through things, and figure it out, and make a plan. And kids just do this naturally. They’ve done this since they were little. It’s intuitive.

So, as an adult, what do we do? Well, we have a Heavenly Father, and we can turn to Him and we can cast our burdens on Him. I have taken this information and I’ve used it. A lot of prayers I say are prayers of gratitude. Prayers of gratitude for the beautiful world we live in, the nice home we have, the beautiful family that I have, and the many, many blessings that I get to enjoy. And I love saying those prayers. But sometimes, I’m so overwhelmed and I just need somewhere to turn to. I’ve learned through my kids, through their example, that I do have someone to turn to. I still have a parent I can turn to. I have a Heavenly parent and He has actually asked us to cast our burdens upon Him. He wants us to turn to Him in our time of need. Sometimes we forget that. Sometimes our prayers get somewhat repetitive. Sometimes we just say the same old things over and over again.

I have tried this out and have learned how to say prayers of overwhelm. It feels really good. It feels really good not to have to carry this burden by myself. I don’t have to–I don’t have to carry it alone! I can cast my burdens on Him and He can help me. Through His grace, He can sift through my problems, help me find answers and resolutions, or just cast away some of them that are just unnecessary, which I need to let go of. It has been really helpful in my life.

I encourage you to give it a try. Try saying a prayer of overwhelm. See if it helps you feel better. I really believe it will. It has helped me and I know it can help you too. It would be worth your time and effort. I don’t want you to feel overwhelmed, and Heavenly Father doesn’t want you to feel overwhelmed either. He’s there for you, to help you. I encourage you to try it this week.

Maria
